In Memoriam of Cecilia Zhang - Toronto's Little Angel

For all of you who do not live in Toronto, or Canada for that matter, than this may not be of concern to you, but nevertheless, you should take heed.  We are a city in mourning this week, as the body of sweet and innocent Cecilia Zhang was found dead.  This is perhaps the greatest tragedy to hit are city in many years, even greater than SARS>

If you aren't from around Ontario, Cecilia was an innocent 9 year old girl who was kidnapped from her house in North York on Oct. 19/'04.  For months police in Ontario and Toronto have been searching to bring this little angel home to her distraught parents.  Unfortunately, her body was found near the Credit River, a place she often went on picnics with her family.

I would like to offer my condolences to the Zhang family.  No words can possibly comfort them nor describe the amount of pain they must be in at the loss of their innocent daughter.  They have the best wishes of an entire city, who has become very familiar with the face of Cecilia, almost as if we had known her all our lives.  We all became attached to her sweet smile in that poster and prayed for a safe return.
However, she is with God now, and is truly a little angel.

I, as many probably do, will pray for her family and their long journey to recovery.  At least they were granted some closure in all of this.  Not knowing what has haoppened to your child when they go missing is perhaps the worst feeling to live with.  One just wishes Cecilia did not suffer in parting this world.  God bless the Zhang family.

I have never felt so enraged as I do now.  To think that scumbag is still alive and walking around the streets of Toronto is an outrage.  I hope the cops nail this guy and bring him to justice.  I think they are gonna have to protect him, b/c a lot of angry citizens who have come to see that angel's face everyday on the train, bus or store are gonna want a piece of him.  When you take the life of an innocent child, I think you give up your rights to your own life and that of the law.  I really wish this guy is caught soon.  No amount of punishment is going to be equal to his crime.  I hope there is a special place in hell reserved for people who exploit and murder innocent children.

For now, let us put down our anger and pray for Cecilia and her family.  Truly this is a sad week in Toronto.  What has the world come to?  If you are wondering what you can do, a lot of people are putting a capital "C" on their MSN Screen names in her memory.  If you have MSN messenger, please do as such.  It is just a small tribute in this angel's memory.
Pray people, I don't care to whom you pray to, just pray for that little girl's soul and for her devastated family.  May they recieve some comfort in the coming days by the grace of God.

Lethal Weapon: The Greatest Action comedy series ever!

Okay, so you know I am just about the biggest Mel Gibson fan there is.  But, you have to admit, that the Lethal Weapon series is one of the best action films out there.  EVeryone is funny and everyone is jam packed with action!  But it is perhaps the chemistry between Sgt. Marty Riggs (Gibson) and Sgt. Roger Murtaugh, that makes these films probably the best of the best in terms of their genre.  Here in Toronto, we have a new TV station called Toronto 1.  Since two Mondays ago, and everyone after it, they have been airing the Lethal Weapon Series in order.  I am extatic. Next Monday will be the final installment (thus far- I think Mel is amking the 5th one soon...ya!), Lethal Weapon 4.  However, Lethal Weapon II is my all time fav, as it is both political and funny/action packed.  I mean, it speaks out about the problem that plauged S.Africa the early 90's- apartheid.  It totally denounced the idea and villianized all who believed in it.  It was a big step in terms of getting the world to realize the existence of such a dieased thought still kicking around back then, as many people refused to act on it, and stop it's reign in South Africa.  The movie did a lot to get the message out that apartheid was still in existence and truly unjust and needed to be stopped.  The movie is not only political, but it introduces us to Leo Gets (as in: anything u want Leo gets...you get the joke...LOL!) played by a hilarious Joe Peschi.  He really made the boys into a great triumverate of comedy, and really raised the bar in terms of chemistry between the stars and characters. I mean, riggs is always going on about the Three Stooges, well, with the addition of Gets (Peschi) we witness the completion of a new comedy trio.  Leo Gets is the Curly to Riggs's Moe, and Murtauhg's Larry!! All around it is an entertaining flick, and perhaps the best in the quadrilogy!!

Here for you enjoyment are some quotes from the first Lethal Weapon, courtesy of GARNERCLASSICS.com.
Warning: some of the quotes may be offensive in terms of language another material.  I  am personably not responsible for any offense taken as I am not the author

Memorable Quotes from
Lethal Weapon (1987)

Riggs: You want me to drive?
Murtaugh: No, you're supposed to be suicidal, remember? I'LL drive.
Riggs: Anybody who drives around in this town IS suicidal.

Martin Riggs: We both know why I was transferred. Everyone thinks I'm suicidal, in which case, I'm fucked and nobody wants to work with me; or they think I'm faking to draw a psycho pension, in which case, I'm fucked and nobody wants to work with me. Basically, I'm fucked.
Roger Murtaugh: Guess what?
Martin Riggs: What?
Roger Murtaugh: I don't want to work with you!
Martin Riggs: Hey, don't.
Roger Murtaugh: Ain't got no choice! Looks like we both are fucked!
Martin Riggs: Teriffic.
Roger Murtaugh: God hates me. That's what it is.
Martin Riggs: Hate him back; it works for me.

Murtaugh: Okay, clown, no bullshit! You wanna kill yourself?!
Riggs: Oh, for Chriss---
Murtaugh: Shut up! Yes or no--you wanna die?!
Riggs: Oh, I got the job done! What the hell do you want?!
Murtaugh: JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION!
Riggs: Well, what do you wanna hear, man?! Do you wanna hear that sometimes I think about eatin' a bullet?! Huh? Well, I do! I even got a special bullet for the occasion with a hollow point, look! Make sure it blows the back of my goddamned head out and do the job right! Every single day I wake up and I think of a reason not to do it! Every single day! You know why I don't do it?! This is gonna make you laugh! You know why I don't do it?! The job! Doin't the job! Now that's the reason!

[After stopping Riggs from shooting himself.]
Murtaugh: You're not trying to draw a psycho pension! You really are crazy!

[Picking up a young prostitute.]
Young prostitute: What have you got in mind?
Riggs: Well, I want you to come home and watch television with me.
Young prostitute: You serious?
Riggs: Yeah. "The 3 Stooges" are on in 20 minutes.

Riggs: This is a real badge, I'm a real cop, and this is a real fucking gun!

Riggs: Oh, Roger?
Murtaugh: What?
Riggs: The guy who shot me. The guy who shot me? It's the same albino jackrabbit son of a bitch who did Hunsacker.
Murtaugh: You sure?
Riggs: Yeah, I'm sure man. I never forget an asshole.

[Discussing a theory]
Martin Riggs: That's very thin.
Roger Murtaugh: Thin is my middle name.
Martin Riggs: Considering your wife's cooking, I'm not surprised.

Martin Riggs: I don't make things difficult. That's the way they get, all by themselves.

[Riggs is captured by General McAlister]
Riggs: You're General Peter McAlister, Commander of Shadow Company.
McAlister: I see we've heard of each other.
Riggs: Yep. It'll almost be a shame when I nail you.

Martin Riggs: Look, why don't we just the cut the shit here? We both know why I was transferred. People think I'm crazy, in which case, I'm fucked and nobody wants to work with me. Or they think I'm faking to draw a psycho pension, in which case, I'm fucked and nobody wants to work with me. Basically, I'm fucked.

Man at the office: You know, Roger, you are way behind the times. The guys of the 80s aren't though. They are sensitive people. Show a little emotion to a woman and shit like that. I think I'm an 80's...
Roger Murtaugh: How do you figure?
Man at the office: Last night I cried in bed. So how is that?
Roger Murtaugh: Were you with a woman?
Man at the office: I was alone. Why do you think I cried?
Roger Murtaugh: Sounds like an 80's man to me...

[Repeated line all the way]
Roger Murtaugh: I'm too old for this shit!

Martin Riggs: Perhaps there's an opening in the L.A. Fire Department?

[When Joshua is panting on the lawn after the title-fight]
Roger Murtaugh: Get that shit off my lawn!

Roger Murtaugh: Have you ever met anybody you didn't kill?
Martin Riggs: Well, I haven't killed you yet.

Martin Riggs: You don't trust me at all, do you?
Roger Murtaugh: Well, I'll tell you what. You make it through tomorrow without killing anybody, especially me, or yourself, then I'll start trusting you.
Martin Riggs: Fair enough.

Martin Riggs: I do it real good, you know.
Roger Murtaugh: Do what?
Martin Riggs: When I was 19, I did a guy in Laos with a rifle shot in high wind. They told me, maybe eight or... even ten guys in the world could have made that shot. ...It's the only thing I was ever good at.

Roger Murtaugh: See how easy that was? Boom, still alive. Now we question him. You know why we question him? Because I got him in the leg. I didn't shoot him full of holes or try to jump off a building with him.
Martin Riggs: Hey, that's not fair. The building guy lived.

Martin Riggs: You know they're going to kill her, don't you?
Roger Murtaugh: Yeah.
Martin Riggs: So if you want her back, you're going to have to take her away from them.
Roger Murtaugh: I know.
Martin Riggs: You do this my way. You shoot, you shoot to kill, get as many of them as you can. All you got to do is just not miss.
Roger Murtaugh: I won't miss.
Martin Riggs: We're going to get bloody on this one, Rog.
Roger Murtaugh: Are you really crazy? Or are you as good as you say you are?
Martin Riggs: You're just gonna have to trust me.

The Producers is great!

So I went to see the Producers last night with my girlfriend, as her wonderful parents gave me a ticket, just outta the goodness of their heart.  Just a side note here, her parents are really amazing. They are the kindest people in the world.  They do a lot for me, just b/c I love their daughter. I have never met such selfless people in all my life, and continue to be amazed by their undeserved generousity.  They have made me feel as if I were a part of their family, and I am just dating their beautiful daughter.  I am undeserved of such kindness, as my parents seem the exact opposite of hers, and if anything, make it difficult for the two of us to be together. Her parents, however, are humanity at its best, and I will forever be in their debt.

Anyway, so we went to The Producers, and it was amazing.  I mean, Mel Brooks is a genius.  It was a great musical, with hilarious songs, and great performances.  Sean Cullen (u've seen him doing the songs on Star TV) was spectacular and the whole cast did an equally astounding show.  My personal favourite scene was when Cullen summarized the show in song, and included an intermission piece where he poked fun at the conversations people have during intermissiions with friends or strangers. LOL!  The theatre, the Canon (formerly the Pantages theatre) is beautiful and truly a work of art itself.  The architecture was incredible and breath taking and matched the occassion of the night.

All in all, the night was one that I will hold special in my heart for ever.  Not only was I shown incredible generousity, but I was treated to a civilized (and dress-up occassion) night out with my gorgeous girlfriend, who by the way, was smouldering hot in her black dress and hair-do...HUBBA HUBBA!!!
The night was decadent and enjoyable.  I haven't had one of those in a long time.

Thanks again to my girlfriends parents. I am truly in yer debt and will repay you soon.  To my girlfriend:  Last night was really special for me.  I don't think we've had an evening as decadent as the one we had.  It was so special and wonderful to see you in yer dress looking all gorgeous, like one of those film stars off the red carpets.  I love you.

"Now I'm pissed Roge, now I'm pissed!"- Riggs, Lethal weapon

Oh yeah, Lethal Weapon was on tonight.  the original and first movie!  This is one of the greatest series in film history.  I mean, you don't get any more complex in characters than you do with Lt. Riggs aka Mel Gibson.  He plays a Vietnam vet.  who becomes a cop, but faces suicidal tendencies because of his involvement in the war.  He also had the best shot in the world practically.  And if one contest that it is a shitty performance, let me just say that Director  Franco Zeffirelli chose Mel Gibson for his lead role in Hamlet, a performance that has been critically acclaimed, because he was awe-struck by Mel's performance in Lethal Weapon.

Teamed up with funny man and method actor Danny Glover, these two have become one of the most beloved buddy cop team ever!  I mean you don't get any funnier in terms of action movies or any more action for that matter, when these two are paired up.

All Lethal Weapons are freakin action-packed and hilarious as hell!  My personal fav. is Lethal Weapon three with Joe Peshi!

Once again, Mel kicks ass! Mel Mel Mel!

My Condolences go out to Spain

Today, all over the country of Spain the people were crowding the streets, lighting candles and making vigils in rememberance of the deceased that found their tragic end during the bombing of a train.  On Thursday, a cowardly terrorist attack targeted, with deadly efficienc,y a local transit train carrying thousands of people.  Two explosions erupted in two of the cars, killing 199 people and wounding about 1, 440 or more people.  It has been one of the most devastating attacks the people have ever been unfortunate enough to be caught in.  Not since the days of dictator Franco, has their been such bloodshed.
And as the news stations across the globe transmitted the disturbing images of bodies being salvaged and bloody survivors fleeing in horror, one question was asked repetitively: who was behind the attack?  At first, many were quick to point the finger at the guerilla tactic network known as  ETA.  ETA is a small terrorist network from the region of Basque, who for years have plauged the Spanish government with guerilla attacks on the cities of Spain, in an attempt to liberate their homeland of Basque.  Their culpability in these cowardly acts seemed almost certain; the explosives used matched that of ETA's usual arsenals, and perhaps the most incriminating factor being  that the explosion came in the wake of a federal election, and threats posted by the network. But, the only evidence at the time to dispute such accusations was that ETA never hit Spain with such force and their attacks never claimed more than a few lives (still unjustifiable in the end). However, as police and government officials searched the wreckage, new evidence was found, shrowding culpability.
Found amoung the debris was a tape and note, allegedly from Al-Quidea.  The tape recites verses from the Koran, while the message on paper proclaims their involvement and the fact that they are ready for another attack on the US.  So, as dawn slowly marched toward the skies peak, the world lay confused on whose shoulders the blame should fall, while the people of Spain lay crushed at the loss of lives.  However, an anonymous caller on behalf ETA, called a local station and claimed no involvement on their part.  While on Arabic paper was contacted by another anonymous being, this one from the same people who hit the Twin Towers in 2001, claiming responsibilty.  So, today the world decided that once again the blood of the innocent lies on the hands of Al-Quieda (there is still debate).

So, one may wonder why launch an attack on Spain?  Well, Spain was a large supporter of both American President Bush's wars,  on Afganistan and Iraq.  Spain showed military support during the first campaign.  Violence begets violence, and no civilities are spared, and no humanity is shown.

Is anyone sick of terrorism?  I mean, whether the blame of such atrocities falls on Al-Quieda or on ETA, the end is always the same- innocent people die.  Some would argue that such is the price needed to buy freedom or whatever these people want.  I say NO, there is no way to justify the taking of lives, especially innocent ones.  War is no excuse for death.  When you kill somebody it doesn't matter why you did it, the effects are real and you are still robbing people of life ( a right that you were never given), and the effects ripple throughout your life.  After Vietnam, many soldiers came home to face such realities. Bush's war on Iraq, claimed many lives during the bombing and we failed to fully speak out against it.  Sean penn, acclaimed and award winning actor, took up the cross and went to Iraq to bring home the gorey truth of the States almighty war.  Hasn't enough blood been shed?  After 9/11's attacks and loss of life, one would stop and say- haven't we seen enough sorrow.  But no, viloence begets violence.  Innocence seems always the first to face death.

But do we really care, at home in North America?  Some do, most don't.  Hell, it happened so far away from our couches that the ripples of the effect that reach us, are minor and warrant no attention from us.  We change the channel and forget about such things, wallowing in TV's Primetime.  I think we need to wake up.  The world cared when 9/11 hit america.  I think we should do the same..are we so numb to violence and terrorism, after so few years spent in it's wake.  People have to live with such threats all the time, everyday.  What can you do?  Get up and pray for them.  It doesn't matter who you pray to and what place of worship you choose, just whisper a prayer- for humanity's sake.  It's time we cared!

So, to all the people in Spain, who are in mourning, I offer you my condolences.  I pray that God will provide you the answers and hope needed to pass through this difficult time.  I saw a shot of your vigil from a helicopter shot on the news and was tocuhed to see the streets lined with Spainish people carrying red candles.  Only 200 died, thousand injured.  But to those who escaped such tragedy, or bear no realation to the deceased, I admire your show of support in pouring out onto the streets to mourn and pray for those souls you did not even know perhaps, simply in an act of humanity to console your brethren countrymen.  To the world I say: that is how you battle hate - through acts of humanity. Death is the great equalizer. No one has the right to take lives.  No matter what faith you are, no matter what race or clolour you are, no matter what part of the world you come from or what language you speak, we all are human and prone to death.  We are the same, for all our differences...isn't it time we started acting like it...human!

I'll admit: I am an in the closet Brad Pitt Fan!

Alright, this entry is for my good pal, Jennie.  My recent defence of Mel Gibson hasn't exactly been the most pleasing to her mind (see some of the comments marked on articles concerning Mel).  But, I love her still and she has a right to her opinion.  So, as a show of good faith I am writing about something that she'll like...or at least I hope she will remember the discussion we had on this subject.

Here we go Jennie D.  I am admitting to being an in the closet Brad Pitt fan!!!  No, I am not gay and don't have any such feeling for the guy.  I mean I am a fan of his performances.  Today, they aired the episode of Friendson NBC, in which Brad Pitt guest starred on the Thanksgiving show.  Brad plays a former fat man who was persecuted by Rachael in highschool and hasn't shed the grudge as he has the many rolls of fat and blubber.  Ya, this appearence was obviously a poke on their marriage, as Brad played a character who hated Rachael, going against the convention or expectation to make them lovers.  I enjoyed his performance.  Jen and I had a long conversation last year when we went on that Sanctuary trip in Pejovic's class.  We both agreed that he should get an Emmy for the role.  We found it hilarious.  I mean, the bit about how he wanted to eat all this stuff b/c of Rachael was funny.  And when he talked about the I hate Rachael Club, or mouthed "I hate you" to an unwitting Rachael, those made us laughs to glories end on the streets of Downtown Toronto.
I hope you remember that conversation, Jennie, b/c it meant something to me...LOL!

Alright, back to the Pittster.  Okay, maybe we'll stick with the names Brad or Pitt..I'll stop the lame nicknames..LOL!  Anyway, I really think he has delivered some powerful and subtle performances over the span of his career.  Let's take a look at him.  well, the first reason I took interest in Mr.Pitt was not his overconventional goodlooks, as most would assume, but rather I was in a library and picked up this biography on him.  Apparently, after a car accident, Pitt reassessed his life, and dropped outta colleage three months before graduating.  Instead, he headed for L.A. to become an actor, and he went on less money than most do - a measely $374 to his name.  He took up odd jobs, such as driving around girls who were sent as strip-o-grams to buisness men and other shady characters.  He even swallowed his pride and covered up that women and magazine loved face of his and dawned a chicken outfit for a local restaurant promotion.  He had to fight his way up.  Talk about taking the hard road. Every actor earns their fame at some point, but every actor must pay their dues first through a gruelling set of years that I mark as a right of passage.  Those who endure march towards an unknown future, but stronger for the trials.  Brad was one of the few, who seemed destined for Hollywood glory.  Most will say for his face, but hidden and overshadowed by his looks, lies an amazing talent for his art.

His features do suggest one reason he rose to fame so quickly, but it is his talent that has kept him on the top.  He debuted I believe in "Thelma & Luis", the smash hit and world pop culture reference.  Brad has done other films in it's wake.  One I particularly enjoyed was Kalifornia, starring David Decohvony and a few other stars.  I won't divulge the details of the plot, but Brad played this quite hick with a brown furly beard who accompanied Decohvony and his  lass.  Brad however, turns out to be this silent killer, and is quite scary in that silence.  The entire movie you get the feeling that his slow southern nature and accentt is hiding something else.  Chills!!!  I loved Pitt in the cult hit, Se7en, where he plays a newly promoted detecive to homocide, partnered up with Morgan Freeman (an disgruntled veteran on the force).  Anyway, Brad really gives this great portrayal and holds his own against Freeman, and Kevin Spacey.  He even met former lover Gwen paltrow on set.  I also loved his undisernible speeched Irish gypsy boxer in Snatch, which was a great film all in all.  And Fight Club is a another powerful role, which speaks more on the problems of society, than the teen populations have taken it to be ( an excuse to fight amoungst themselves...idiots).
Anyway, perhaps my two fav performances this guy delivered were Louis, the tortured and humanized vampire of the cult novel Interview with the vampire, co-starring another fav of mine, Tom Cruise [the only Lestat..but for Jennie's sake, I will drift no further on this point...LOL!  luv ya jen!].    The other was his role in Legends of the Falls, where he plays an angst ridden and earthy man living after the 1st World War with his brothers and father on the plains.  As Louis, I think Pitt really stole Anne rice's character and brought him straight to life from the pages of the book.  He was beautiful, yet monsterous as a vampire, and characterized Louis perfectly.  he nailed the tortured and forlorn vampire to the T...whatever  'to the T ' means.  In legends of the falls, he held is own again, against the likes of the great Sir Anthony Hopkins and the talented Aidan Quinn.  He was powerful and raw in this movie and entirely gained your sympathy and trust for the many misfortunes he endures, like the loss of his brother before his eyes during WWI and his wife's murder. Meet Joe Black, agin co-starring Hpkins, and the Devil's Own, co-starring Harry Ford, are also movies that display this actor's range and talents...but this is getting well beyond long, so I'll cut it short.

Pitt is next slated in the movie "TROY", with an all-star cast alongside.  He plays the courageous and scheming Achilles, from the ancient legends of Greece.  It is set to be a major blockbuster, and I am intrigued to see Pitt take on the role of another bad guy...or so i assume by the trailers and website.  either way, they say don't judge books by their covers.  Brad pitt is sure one sweet candy wrapper and is sure eye candy for the ladies, but the rule still applies (it is not reserved only to ugly people).  See past those dreamy eyes, angelic face, built body, sunshine-like blonde hair...uhhh...what was my point again....j/k...LOL!  The point is, see past his hot  looks, and to his talent.  If you can't do it on your own power, just remember he's married to Jennifer Aniston now and will never be yours. So you better started admiring him for the talent and not the ass, cause that's adultery.  LOL!  Take care.

PS. To Jen- I hope u like this little piece.  It's for u, and inspired by the conversation we had about that Friends episode, so long ago in Pejo's class. Sorry if my opther articles offended you, but I believe what I believe in, as you do.  Still, our friendship is still on (LOL!), and I luv ya lots.  How can I hate you, mother of my children, all of them: Tom, Russ, Mel, and Harry...now drop the divorce and giv' em back!!! LOL!  To all reading this part, it is a joke, she isn't really pregnant or anything! LOL!  Plus, I have a girly who I love..she's right below. NEWHO, Jen, take care at Carlton.

To Toni- my sweeti, don't poke fun at me fo this article.  LOL!  I really do like Brad pitt....no gay jokes, please! I luv you lots, and yer my fave girlfriend and the best a guy could ask for.

COMING SOON!

COming soon!  I am writing an essay on the defense of Mel Gibson's movie, The Passion of the Christ.  You will know when it is done.  It is an answer to my critics and a defense of one of the most beautiful movies ever made.  I am tired of watching crap being hailed, and good movies being condemned because people are afraid.  I am taking up vocabular arms in Mel's defense.

"Judas" a TV movie? and u criticize Gibson? PLEASE!

Alright, so I guess some of the sharks have come out of hiding, and the frenzy is beginning.  What am I talking about?  TV specials and Tv movies that have been filmed and put on the shelf for some big controversial film to come along and spark interest in it's subject and then the network's start throwing their fish back in the water (but on leashes).  You probably don't get that analogy...neither do I, but I am sticking by it.  The point is, ABC aired some film about Christ's life through the eyes of Judas Iscariot, the man who betrays Jesus.

You want to talk about Mel Gibson making a bad film, you want to criticize Mel gibson about how senseless the Passion of the Christ is?  Please, watch this movie on TV and you will find more appreciation in what Mel Gibson has done and his portrayal of the suffering of Jesus, than what this ABC special TV movie has sugar coated for our enjoyment....or torture!

This film, called Judas, portrays the life of Christ through the eyes of his abdicated apostle, Judas Iscariot.  Good concept of the film, although the movie holds no historical merit whatsoever.  But the ball stops rolling at the idea stage.  This movie was a load of garbage.  Unlike Gibson's film, the movie is soo watered down and sugared up, that  it's content seems fantastical.  The film's plot alone comes from some writer's imagination of what really happened, and tid bits of the Bible.  You accused Mel Gibson of being inaccurate?  this movie takes inaccuracy and runs away with it.  Mel Gibson used the Bible as a prime source and stayed very true to it for the most part.  This ABC crapathon drifts away from the Bible and into lala land.  Apparently the apostles, lead by judas, made an attempt to convince Jesus that he should charge for miracles!!!!!!  What?!!!  WHere is that coming from?  And Pontius Pilate and Caiphus used to sit and eat brunch together and chat about Jesus!!!  It is really in the movie, I swear!

Mel Gibson made sure that he used authentic people who conveyed some traits of the characters to perform in his movie.  The woman who played Mary was quite loving and motherlike (and she was actually with child while filming) and Jim Caviezal was always my choice when i first heard of Gibson's idea, b/c he plays such tortured, yet innocent beings in his films.  In Judas, the characters are so badly conveyed and the performers are talentless.  Not only that, while Mel gibson chose to take that extra step towards authenticity by filming in aramaic, latin and Hebrew, ABC hired a bunch of British actors who were too lazy or talentless to lose their accents for the film.  Everyone sounds British!!!  I dunno, but British colonialism didn't start in the B.C. era.  And, while Gibson made sure Jim Caviezal looked the part and looked to have come from Jerusalem and that part of the world, 'Judas' has Jesus played by a blonde haired blue-eyed man, who can't act, b/c he portrays Jesus as this joker who loved to chuckle around with the gang(the apostles).  Their is no serenity in the performance, that Jesus usually has.  Instead you get a Jesus portrayed as the blond haired equivalent of today's loud mouthed televangelists.  What the hell?!!!

My point is, this movie is so far from any historical or Biblical truth, and it is of the worst quality in terms of filming and performance as well.  So why is there no controversy?  This is a worse film, far worse at that, than the one Gibson has made.  WHere is the Star's witty remarks and cut throat attitude towards this?  Why hasn't this movie been condemned.  I mean, surely one can't deny that this film is no where near true to anything, and makes a mockery of Christ's life, and the blue eyed, blonde haired Jesus seems very anti-semetic or rather rascist to me, as no one in that part of the world conveys such traits abnd Jesus is thus shown as cocasian.

I am assuming that the world enjoys the sugar coated version of Christ's life better than they do the actual reality of what the man suffered for the world (again, whether u believe he existed is ur opinion) b/c no one has even talked about this crappy TV movie, despite it's many flaws.  Could it be, that the Star and other Toronto papers have seen the lions of the American Press feasting on The Passion, and like hyenas (scavengers) have come to seek the bigger kill, than the one that is smaller and lies in more inaccuracy and poor film standards (even for a TV movie).  Seems so to me.  The papers here are simply looking to get a piece of the bigger american pie...what else is new...our media empires are always trying to 'americasnize' themselves.  Even hyenas on the african plains hold themselves in higher regard than to bow down before lions!

Mel Gibson vs. The Toronto Star

In case you are wondering why I am writing up on Gibson so much, stop.  I am a huge fan of this guy, and secondly I admire his courage in making a movie about something that has gone taboo in our sex crazed, drug induced society  - faith...especially faith in Jesus.  My blog name is Mel gibson Jr.  I enjoy defending Mel's name as both a human being and a director/actor/producer.

Today's defense is set up against the attacks the Star has made on Mel.  Apparently Mel Gibson and the Catholic community, along with the Christian faith, have all conspired to make a violent propaganda film about Jesus.  The Star accuses Mel Gibson of making a snuff movie. Hmmmmm...that's a load a bullshit.  But, I'm gonna take my time an finish the Star's other arguements.  Apparently the Christian faith and movie goers are no better than Osama Bin Laden, revelling in the violence that has given us back our faith.......

Okay, so Mel Gibson has made a  propaganda snuff film, eh?  seems like crap to me.  Oh, the conspiracy...God is recruiting us to fight a war on the world.  I saw overtones of subliminal messages reaming from each scene...the Aramaic spoken was actual a message saying: Join the army of Christ and let's rule the world and kill all other faiths...please.  Never once did I hear a line or see a scene in which the message was: "You better believe in this or else".

Now about that comment on The Passion being a snuff film..I see where a warped mind bent on bringing down this movie can get such an idea.  The film depicts the torture and brutality Christ endured before his death in order to save a people, whether you believe in that is another fact.  And in case the writer down at the Toronto star isn't smart enough to know, I'll explain something to him that maybe his hatred stopped him from seeing.  This is not a movie about the life of Christ.  It is not a sugar coated version of the Lord's son and his life.  The movie is called THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST. The key word in this title is Passion.  In case you didn't know, passion translated from latin doesn't mean intimate, of fervent, but refers rather to the word 'suffering'.  Suffering...THE SUffering of the Christ.  Get it?  That's why the movie doesn't focus on his life, but rather his death.  If they knew, maybe journalists like the one from the Star wouldn't have gone in wanting the sugar coated version that comes on TV every Easter.  As for the comment on snuffing, well Star journalist, you seemed to praise Kill Bill for it's violence, justifying it by it's stylization of slaughter in the same article.  Hmmm...hypocrit.  The Passion isn't a movie about cruelty; it is a theme, but not the end result and message.  The message behind the suffering is to show all mankind what one man endured for a people, to save us from eternal damnation.  The message is about love of humanity, and the willingness of one man to endure such torture to see his fellow human beings free from sin and hell. And as for Kill Bill, this is a snuff film if ever I saw one.  Uma thurman's character the Bride goes out specifically intent on snuffing out the lives of her former colleages....and for what..for love?  No, for revenge.  She slaughters her enemies in an array of disturbing ways, and the entire film ends up glorifying violence, and the Star has the audacity to say: Christ's suffering was a snuff film in the waiting.  Idiots.  The Bible says, he had to die that way in order to fulfill the prophesies. It was already set out according to the Bible. Yeah, lots of cruelty was shown to him and the violence is a big factor, but the end message isn't kill you enemies or violence is good; it's love.  Hell, Christ even says in the movie and Bible: "Forgive them Father, they know not what they do".  In Kill Bill, the Bride's message is mercy is weakness, killing is strength, violence is the way to settle wrong doings.  And if you argue with that, show where the humanity in that movie is.  Kill Bill revels in violence and gore, it feast on it.  In the Passion, you are made to fear the actual results of violence.  In its depiction of Christ's cuffering you see the true nature and outcome of violent acts.  In every other film, you find violence glorified and the bloody results numbed for your viewing pleasure, making your senses dull to the actual outcomes. Maybe that's why this movie is such a shock...for the first time in a long time you go and see someone's pain and you actually aren't numb to it...I jumped and squirmed in the theatre, b/c it was so real that I could feel Christ' pain in some small manner.  and in that i understood his pain was much more and I felt sympathy for him.  I din't walk out, as I did of Kill Bill, feeling adrenelene pumped and ready to settle scores.  Kill Bill left me feeling nothing about the gore, numb.  This  Passion of the Christ made me weak at the knees and my emotions were spent.  It was real.

And lastly, are us Christians revelling in the delight of the bloody violence and martyrdom that this movie apparently preaches, very much like Osama Bin Laden did when his martryed men crashed the world trade towers?  Well, apparently that is what the star says.  What a low down and dirty way to stop people from seeing this movie..comparing us to Osama.  Here's the difference, ass (from the Star, not u the reader..hehehe), in our beliefs our martrydom.  Osama Bin Laden's idea of martyrdom involves not only self sacrifice, but the death of thousands of inncoent people to get a message across.  Christ died and sacrificed himself; it was his destiny, what he was born to do.  He wasn't cowardly enough to send other people to perform his task, and he didn't take other people's lives in the process.  He bore the responsibility on his own to save humanity and even forgave his persecutors. Osama just sacrificed his men for blood shed in hatred.  Thedeath that resulted was done in hatred.  Christ died with intentions of love, and he alone died. As for the audience reveling in the bloodshed, well we are all sickened by the violence, but in that we realize the reality of the suffering Christ endured.  We are human again in our sympathy toward this man, whether you believe in him or not.  Catholics have not been out there sayinmg the violence is good and the message is death to all who don't believe in Christ! As for Bin Laden, h edidn't even have the guts to perform his cowardly acts himself and who is he saving by them- none, just killing innocent people in hatred for the West.  And it is down right disgusting for you, a journalist, to make that reference in an attenmpt to sway opinions.  I have lost all respect I held for the Star.

A number of attempts have been made to see this movie averted and aborted.  A claim of anti-semtism has already been shot down by both Christian and Jewish leaders.  Now journalists and haters turn to the violance saying it is a snuff film, when other movies like Kill Bill, are out there glorifying violence for us.  And the latest is the comparison of the film's audience being like Osama Bin Laden.  Come on.  What's next:  Why not accuse the movie of starting a new world war.  Run people, The Passion is starting up a war that no one will survive..with $135 million dollars in gross, one thinks we have millions of recruits already...but here's the thing not one act of violence has been committed in the name of Christ thus far.  But the Star will soon argue otherwise.
