That's right, Troy has got my film taste buds a buzzing with the flavour of sweet anticipation!!! This is going to be an epic, the like of which has not been seen since Gladiator stormed our sad little worlds and made it better, showing us the greatness of one man vs and empire. Now, with Troy, we will find out whether Love can combat war, and whether it really can conquer all. In case many of u are saying: Gladiator...what about Lord of the Rings as an epic...correction...Lord of the Rings, is an epic, but is really viewed as a cinematic spectacle/achievemant. Anyway, back to Troy. The story follows the Ancient Greek Legend of the greatest war of the times- The Battle of Troy. It depicts the events of one brash young lover, Paris (Orlando Bloom) who steals away Helen, Queen of Sparta, after victory at his brother's side, Hector (Eric Bana). Unfortunately Helen's husband, Menelaus the king (Brendon Gleeson) finds her gone and that starts a series of events that will lead Troy to a horrid war of destruction. Menelaus goes to his Brother, Agamemmon (Brian Cox) for help, who in greed sets out to conquer Troy. Knowing it is a great walled city and heavily guarded, he hires Achillies (Brad Pitt), perhaps the greatest warrior to ever live...said to be "Born to end lives", such is his skill in warfare and combat. However, while Achillies is the deciding factor is Troy's demise, the tip of the scales, his glory is tied to his demise...only love will redeem him. So again, can love conquer all...or will all else conquer love?... The movie has an amazing cast with some greats, like Peter O'toole, Brendan Gleeson, and Brian Cox. These guys are classic movie stars with more talent than some of the young hacks teens idolize. Orlando Bloom stars as Paris. Who else could play a boyishly good-looking kid who wants to be a man? Eric Bana plays the great prince, Hector. This guy, I personally love. He is a great actor, and was marvelous in the Hulk. I really think he has a lot going for him, and this role will establish him, likely as a critical success as well as a box office leadman. The headlining role of Achillies is played by non-other than my secret actor's crush- Brad Pitt! This guy is talented far beyond his pretty looks. Most people just see his facial perfection, but he is a lot more than a pretty boy (He's not a Paul Walker people- a P.W is a dud..looks good on the outside..nothing on the inside!). Brad has a lot of talent, and I think he is going to really come up big breakthrough- performance-wise here. Guys who play larger than life heroes, be it Braveheart to Maximus and now Achillies, are challenged both emotionally and physically, b/c while strength is part of the characters, these roles often involve some sort of mental or emotional dilema. Anyway, check of the site! It's cool, and explain's everything. It's got trailers, pics, and a flash site that is amazing! Site link: www.troymovie.warnerbros.com |
