Entry: Homage to My Homey- ALEX!!!!! The Danny Glover to my Mel Gibson Apr 9, 2004

Alright, this entry is devouted to one of my best friends, a homage to my homey, Alex 'G-solo'.  G as in G's for dollars, cause this guy is a genius if I ever met one, the likes of which the world has not seen since Bill Gates- but, this guy trumps Bill Gates, cause he's a heck of a lot better looking and is a lady killer!.  I mean this guy is Frank Sinatra cool- and nothing and nobody is cooler than Sinatra!
To me this guy is like family (LOL! GODFATHER).  Alex is like a brother to me, and we have gone through a lot of life experiences together.  This guy is like the Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) to my Marty Riggs (Mel Gibson-Lethal Weapon series), the Frank Sinatra to my Dean Martin, the Robert DeNiro to my Al Pacino, the Butch Cassidy to my Sundance Kid, the Han Solo to my Chubaca, the Arnold Schwarzenegger to my Danny De Vito(wouldn't be a homage to you man, if I didn't include Arny.LOL!).  In other words, this guy is my best friend, and we compliment each other well as such.

Alright, Alex and I met in Grade 2, down at St.Isaac Jogues C.E.S.  We didn't really know each other too well, but he used to draw people pictures of comic book characters, and it just so happened that he drew one, of the legendary Wolverine, for me.  Well, I moved to another school in my hometown, and I didn't see him until Grade 9 gym.  We became acquaintances and moved our friendship along.  Then, in Grade Ten, we both had the honour of being pupils under one of the greatest masters of science and teaching- the late Mr.English(God rest his soul).  It was in that class that Alex and I became best friends.  Not only was the class pure jokes, but we, with another good friend, even formed a little clique called THE BOYZ! (no real meaning, except we were all guys)and were great friends with Mr.English, joking about everything from Bachelor Parties to just plain lame ass stuff. We did everything together, from seeing movies to biking on trails in the P-dot to talking about girl troubles.  We even saw Gladiator together, the ultimate guys' night out movie ever!

His family is really cool, especially his mom, who I see as a second mom. They are really hospitable and kind, and treat me like one of the family.  That is class right there.  I have met only one other family in my life time, who makes you feel like one of their own, and that's my girlfriend's family.  Families like his, have morals, are decent and charming, and know fully the value of an honest day's hard work and living.  Families like Alex's don't come along too often these days.

Anyway, whenever I need a hand, this guy always make sure he has one free to offer me, even when he's too busy with work or juggling other aspects of life.  When I am at my worst, Alex has been at his best as a brother and friend.  I remember last summer, I needed help with university course selection.  Alex had to get up early the next day to go to the big SARS Relief Concert Downtown.  Instead of blowing me off, he invites me over and helped me, staying up pretty late to do so.  And when I had girl problems, he was the first to bring me up of the floor.  And he always promotes me where ever he is.  At univeristy, the guy yells at his TV in front of his friends: "That is SOOOOO Carlos!", at anything that reminds him of me.  He tells his friends I am an actor, which these days is half true in my mind, but this guy has never quit believing in me. Guys with this much scrupples, and class are hard to find in this day and age when everyone basically thinks about themselves and what gains can be made.

Just to compare this guy's class, you'd think with his intelligence and charm, he could easily be a shoe in for President of the USA, and beat the brains outta every politician.  He's got the class and style of a Kennedy, but with an 'everyday-guy" attitude .  I mean, you will not find anyone more real to you than him.  No games, no ego or efforts to increase it, just plain truth.  Alex is pretty smart and pretty popular, and for all of this, he doesn't walk around with his head stuck up in the air.  He holds it level with yours, no matter who you are, so he can look you square in the eye and show he has nothing tp hide. That is the definition of a man, and he keeps company in this regard with some of the most honoured men in history, such as Anthony Hopkins, Dr. Martin luther King Jr., the Kennedy boys, and Harrison Ford.  He is the last of a dying breed of friends.... loyal to the death, loving like a brother, and selfless.  Alex, trust, you think Arny made it up in life from humble beginning just based on dreams and the determination to see them succeed, wait till we read about you.  Arnold is gonna line up to play you in a bio-flick about yer life!  I'll be happy to play a young you...LOL!

If it sounds like I am in awe of this guy, well...I am.  Friends like him, are in short supply and are as rare to see as a snow leapord.  Guys with enough decency and respect, who hold no ego and can always look you in the eye as an equal, you cannot trade for all the money in the world.  Ya, I have tremendous respect for Alex.  If you are lucky enough to know him, you would understand and share the same opinion.  I said earlier that this guy holds a place amoung a lot of great historical and societal heroes.  What I mean is, he has enough potential in his mind to compete with the great intellects of the world and he himself become an establishment in whatever field he chooses to follow and earn huge dollars- basically the drive to become something.  But what earns Alex his place amoung these heroes is that while he has that potential to be huge, he has the respect and class not to hold it above anybodies' head and to use it to do some good in the world. He treats you as his equal, and will never reach too high that if you need him, he won't be able to reach his hand down and help you up!

So, Alex, my man- this is my homage to you. The greatest friend I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.  I thank you for everything you have done for me, past, present and future.  Till the end, my friend, the BOYZ till the end!

PS> I will buy you that Porche when I get to the the top of my game, acting.  And you better believe if I stand on that podium and catch me an Oscar, the G-solo name is going to be immortalized at the Acadamey Awards.  Take care! Say hi to yer family.
